Archer Aviation is taking a significant step towards enhancing the passenger experience in its electric air taxis by installing Starlink internet on its Midnight aircraft, the company announced on February 27. This move marks an industry first, bringing “stable, reliable, and high-speed connectivity” to Archer‘s vehicles courtesy of Starlink‘s low-Earth-orbit satellite internet systems.
The integration of Starlink capabilities will enable passengers to access the internet in-flight, while also facilitating better communication between individual aircraft, pilots, and engineers on the ground. This will create a more integrated and connected infrastructure. Archer and Starlink will also collaborate on developing connectivity technology for Archer‘s future autonomous aircraft. According to Adam Goldstein, founder and CEO of Archer, “Connectivity is a must-have feature for Midnight.” He added, “Starlink is uniquely built to deliver it.” Starlink, owned and operated by SpaceX, has approximately 10 million customers worldwide, primarily in North America, and is popular among customers in rural areas without reliable broadband or traditional internet infrastructure.
The partnership between Archer Aviation and Starlink gives Archer a competitive edge in the growing electric air taxi market, which is still largely in the pre-commercial phase. With the Federal Aviation Administration providing a regulatory path for air taxis to move forward towards commercial operations, Archer and its competitors, such as Joby Aviation, are poised for growth in the coming years. Archer has already teamed up with United Airlines to create an air taxi network around Manhattan and will serve as the official air taxi of the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The company’s shares have been volatile, with a 9.23% decline year to date as of February 26, despite numerous spikes throughout 2025.
The integration of Starlink internet on Archer‘s Midnight aircraft is expected to enhance the passenger experience and provide a competitive advantage in the electric air taxi market. As the market continues to grow and evolve, the success of this partnership will be closely watched. With the potential for widespread adoption of electric air taxis, the impact of this collaboration could be significant, and Archer Aviation is well-positioned to capitalize on this emerging trend.
