Former President Trump has announced plans to declassify government files related to alien life and unidentified aerial phenomena (UAPs), following recent comments from former President Obama on the topic. In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that he will direct the Secretary of War and other relevant departments to begin the process of identifying and releasing government files related to alien and extraterrestrial life, UAPs, and unidentified flying objects (UFOs).
The recent interest in alien life was sparked by Obama‘s comments in a podcast interview, where he revealed that he believes in extraterrestrial life. Obama stated that “they’re real but I haven’t seen them” and that the universe is so vast that the odds are good that there’s life out there. He also clarified that he never witnessed anything to convince him that aliens have visited Earth during his presidency. Trump accused Obama of divulging classified information in the interview and promised to release fresh documents on the topic.
The government has been gradually acknowledging the topic of UAPs and alien life in recent years. In 2020, the Department of Defense published three clips of unexplained aerial phenomena observed by Navy pilots, and formed a dedicated task force to investigate UAP sightings. The following year, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence published a preliminary assessment on the topic, and Congress held its first hearing on UFOs in over 50 years. The Pentagon has confirmed that it doesn’t always have an explanation for some of the things pilots spot in the skies, but has rejected claims that the U.S. has knowingly been visited by alien spacecraft.
