Apple has begun testing end-to-end encrypted RCS messages on the iPhone, starting with the developer beta of iOS 26.4, which was released on Monday. This move is part of the company’s plan to support the feature, announced last year, which will enable iPhone and Android users to send encrypted RCS messages to each other across platforms.
For now, the testing is limited to RCS encryption between Apple devices, and it is “not yet testable with other platforms,” according to Apple. The company has also clarified that it does not plan to ship end-to-end encrypted RCS messages with iOS 26.4, and instead, the feature will be made available in a “future update”.
The introduction of end-to-end encrypted RCS messages is expected to have a significant impact on the way users communicate, and once fully available, it will provide an additional layer of security for messages sent between iPhone and Android users. As Apple continues to test and refine the feature, users can expect a more secure messaging experience in the future.
