Overwatch Drops the 2 Reverts to Classic Name Ahead of Major Update

Blizzard has announced that Overwatch will be dropping the ‘2’ from its name, reverting back to simply Overwatch. This change comes as the game is set to receive a major update on February 10, which will include the addition of five new heroes, including the long-awaited Jetpack Cat.

The update will be the largest for Overwatch since the introduction of Stadium mode and the perks system last year. The five new heroes include Jetpack Cat, a support hero with a permanent flight ability, as well as Domina, Emre, Mizuki, and Anran. Each of these heroes will bring unique abilities and playstyles to the game. Jetpack Cat’s ultimate ability, called Catnapper, allows the hero to dive into the ground and knock down enemies, while also tethering the closest enemy to them. The hero’s primary weapon is called Biotic Pawjectiles, providing a speed boost while healing allies.

The update also marks the beginning of a “new story-driven era” for Overwatch, with a year-long narrative arc called The Reign of Talon. This arc will include new lore, heroes, events, and more, all tied to the rise of the villainous Talon organization. Additionally, the game’s interface has been overhauled, with updated menus, a new hero lobby, and faster navigation. A “meta event” called Conquest, a faction war between Overwatch and Talon, will also be introduced, with dozens of rewards up for grabs.

The future of Overwatch looks bright, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game set to arrive in April, alongside Season 2. New maps, mythic skins, and other cosmetics are also in the pipeline. With the game’s 10th anniversary approaching in May, it’s likely that Blizzard has even more surprises in store for players. As the game continues to evolve and grow, it’s clear that Overwatch is here to stay, and fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming months.
